We are pleased to report that on St Andrew's Day 2018 longstanding Clan MacThomas Society member, Lisbeth Thoms, was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Founded in 1780 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1783 the Society is still actively supporting the study and enjoyment of Scotland’s past.

It is with much sadness that the Society announces
the death of Jerry Ludemann on 6th August 2017 at his home in
Oakdale, Minnesota, USA . Many members will have met
Jerry when he accompanied his wife and former NA Branch
Convenor, Cathy, to Clan events on both sides of the Atlantic.
To quote Cathy, "the members that he met enjoyed his sense of
humor and sharing a wee dram!" ***** We hope to publish a full obituary in
the 2017 edition of the Clan magazine and on behalf of all
Clan members send sincere condolences to Cathy and all
her family.

Robert D. Thomson

The Society is very sad to announce the death on 11th May 2017
of Dr Robert D. Thomson from Florida in the United
States. Dr Thomson had been a member of our Society since 1995
and had recently served as the North American
representative on our Archive Committee. Many
members will have had the pleasure of meeting Robert
when, at the age of 88 years, he attended the Clan
Diamond Jubilee Gathering in Perthshire, Scotland in 2014.
Others will have met him at events in the USA where he was a
regular attendee. We send our condolences to his
family.

We are
sad to report the death on 20th April 2017 of May Thom from
Macduff in Banffshire, Scotland. Mrs Thom had been a member of
the Clan MacThomas Society for more than twenty
years and died just one month short of her 102nd birthday.
We are informed that she attended some of our
Gatherings in Glenshee and very much enjoyed reading the Clan
magazines and newsletters. We send our sincere condolences to
her family, several of whom are also members of the
Society.
The Society is sad to report the death on Tuesday
21st February 2017 of longstanding Society member, Robert St
Johnston (Robin) Andrew from Kirkmichael in Perthshire. Mr
Andrew joined the Society in 1978 as a result, we understand,
of his in involvement with the Strathardle Highland Games,
which are regularly attended by members of the Clan. We

A Significant
Birthday!

Congratulations to Society Vice-President, Robin Thoms, who is
celebrating his 70th Birthday in February 2017.
*****
Robin has been a member of Society for almost
48 years and he visited Glenshee with his father for years
before that. He has served as Vice-President for more than 30
years. A quite remarkable contribution.

The
Clan Society sends congratulations to Clan member, Ross
Thomson, from Dundee who has passed his examinations
and started to study Law at Abertay University in Dundee.
Ross is the son of Ian Thomson, who served for many many
years on the Society council, and the grandson of Honorary
Vice President, Iain Thomson.

brother Andrew.

longstanding member, Martina Thom, from Warwickshire in
England who celebrates her 80th birthday on 17th August 2016.
Congratulations from all your friends in the
Clan.

been an eventful couple of years for the Thom family.
Martina's husband, Brian, celebrated his 80th Birthday
in May 2015 and Martina and Brian their Diamond
Wedding anniversary in June 2016.

Many
congratulations to members Brian and Martina Thom from the
West Midlands in England who will celebrate their Diamond
Wedding anniversary at the end of June 2016.

Brian
and Martina joined the Clan Society in the early 1990's and
have been regulars at our Gatherings and events in
Scotland ever since. They have also encouraged other family
members to join the Society. They will be celebrating the
anniversary on a Baltic cruise with close
friends.

Golden Wedding Anniversary

Jan & Mike Rogers
Congratulations to members Jan and Mike Rogers from
North Carolina, USA who celebrate their Golden Wedding
anniversary in April 2016.

Jan
and Mike joined the Society in the early 2000's and for many
years set up Clan tents at Scottish Highland Games in
their area of the USA. Jan still serves the Clan as an
assistant webmaster and a judge for the Essay
Competition.

Clan Society Member (and singer songwriter) Sandi Thom and her
husband, Matt Benson, have announced on Twitter that Sandi
gave birth to a baby boy weighing 9lb 15oz (4.51 kgs)
early in March 2016. The boy has been named Logan Cali Benson.
Congratulations to the whole family.
