The form below can be used to apply on-line for membership of the Society. After you hit "Submit Application" you will be asked to press a  button for the area in which you live. For most areas you will then be given the opportunity to pay your initial membership subscription/dues via PayPal. Details of annual subscriptions in various areas can be found by using the links at the foot of this page.

Your application will be routed to the Branch which looks after the country in which you live and a local officer will then contact you to confirm your membership and welcome you to the Society. We do hope that you will enjoy your membership.

If your surname is not one of our sept names and you cannot prove your connection to the Clan, then please contact us before submitting an application for membership. We can offer Associate Membership to friends of the Clan.

Surnames have only become fixed in Scotland since the 18th century, so that early members of the clan used many forms and variations. The initial letter ‘Th’ in Gaelic having the value of ‘H’ in English, the name of MacThomais (son of Thomas) and its diminutives MacThom (son of Tom) and MacThomaidh (son of Tommy), came to be pronounced MacHomas, MacHom and MacHommy respectively, which readily explains the variations of the surnames still in use today.

The names Thomson and Thomas also occur in other clans, and in such cases adherence should be determined by genealogical and topographical evidence as to what part of Scotland one’s ancestors came from. Those from the following counties in Eastern Scotland – Aberdeenshire, Angus, Fife and Perthshire – are regarded as belonging to the Clan.
