As Society
Treasurer I am always interested to find ways to increase the
Society’s income and hence put off the day when we will have
to increase annual subscriptions. I have discovered one
way in which members can make donations to the Society at no
cost to themselves. I would like to take this opportunity to
introduce it to you.

These days
most of us are buying more and more of our shopping on-line.
An organisation called Easyfundraising Limited has been set up
to raise funds in the UK for good causes such as ours from its
supporters on the back of all the internet shopping. They
operate through a website
www.easyfundraising.co.uk.
*****
Let me try
to explain how the process works. A supporter registers on the
Easyfundraising website and selects the good cause that he or
she wishes to support. When the supporter buys something from
one of the 3580 or so on-line sellers who support the
scheme, then a percentage of the value is remitted as a
donation to the good cause. There is no
cost to the supporter – the seller makes the
entire donation.
*****
In the
early days the process was a little cumbersome requiring the
supporter remember to access the retailer’s website via the
Easyfundraising site – from personal experience I can tell you
that it was easy to forget. However things have changed – most
browsers on both computers and mobile devices can now be
upgraded so that they prompt the supporter to press a “donate”
button. It is very easy.
*****
Typical Retailers.
The percentage donated varies from seller to seller – the
details of which sellers participate in the scheme and how
generous they are can be found on the Easyfundraising
website.
*****
I have been
testing the process for over a year and have found
it easy to use – particularly since the regular
improvements. As an example I purchased two water
butts a little while ago (ever green!) and the seller paid £4.60
into the good cause’s account with Easyfundraising. My good
cause was, of course, the Clan MacThomas
Society.
*****
Some
members may be worried about security of information. Let me
reassure you. Neither Easyfundraising nor the good cause will
see what you have purchased or how much you have paid. Only
the amount that the seller donates will be visible. You can
also choose to be anonymous so that the good cause does not
know who you are.

So why not
sign up now and support the Clan MacThomas
Society?

Sadly this
scheme only operates with sellers in the UK. If you know of a
similar scheme in the country where you live please let the
Society Treasurer know.
