Archive Committee Activities Back
   
The activities to date of the Society Archive Committee are summarised below:

●  At the 2004 AGM of the Society members discussed the need to safeguard

    the records of the Society created over the past 50 years.

  

●  In 2005 the Chief considered that there was merit in establishing an

    archives for the Society’s records.

 

●  In mid 2006 the Chief appointed Grahame Thom, Australian Branch, as a

    member of the Society’s Archives Committee.

 

●  Grahame Thom published an article in the 2006 edition of Clach A’ Choilich

    titled “The Clan Archives” - Vol 6 No 1, pp 24-25, 28.

   

●  In mid 2007, Pam Thom representing the European Branch and Hamish

    Thoms representing the USA/Canadian Branch were appointed to the

    Archives Committee, with Grahame Thom as Chairman of the Committee.

 

●  The Committee’s Terms of Reference were approved by Council in

    September 2007,and published in the 2007 Newsletter, together with a

    request for a stock-take of Society records and assets (partially successful).

 

●  A draft Collections Policy was submitted to Council in January 2008.

    Comments received from a number of officials and members.

  

●  A second draft Collections Policy, and a paper on options for establishing an

    archives, a library and a museum put to Council in June 2008.The

    Collections Policy was approved by Council in late 2008.

  

●  At the request of Finegand, a paper on costs in relation to the Committee’s

    proposals submitted in July 2008.

 

●  At the request of Council the Committee submitted in February 2009 a

    draft set of guidelines on the retention of documents and other items.

  

●  In September 2009 Hamish Thoms resigned from the Committee.

 

●  A draft Disposal Schedule and a proposal for establishing the Society’s

    Archives in Perth were submitted in September 2009 for consideration by

    Council.

  

  In April 2010 Council approved the Disposal Schedule and associated

    guidelines, and for establishing the Society's archives in Perth.

         

  A number of items were lodged with the Archives in Perth following the

    Clan's Gathering at Glenshee in May 2011. A list of these items can be found

    in the Members Secure Area of this website.

       

 In May 2016 Dr Robert Thomson from North America joined the Committee.

    
  In July 2016 Pamela Thom resigned from the Committee.

  

  In November 2016 an electronic archive created "in the Cloud" and images of

    the MS Latta deposited in that location.  

   

  In March 2017 back copies of the Clach na Coileach magazine were lodged with

    the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh, following a request from that

    organisation.

 

●  In May 2017 committee member, Dr Robert Thomson, from North America

    passed away.  

 

●  During 2018 Virginia McComb Kring, from North America, joined the
     committee.

 

●  In March 2019 the North American Branch lodged material in the Odom
     Library in Moulrie, Georgia, USA where it joined the material previous placed
     there by MNA.
