Council Member, Society Treasurer, Membership Secretary
&
Webmaster.
Jonathan Patrick Hedges is the elder son of Kenneth F.J.
Hedges and Jean M. H Hedges (neé Thoms).
Jon, as he prefers to be known,
joined the Clan MacThomas Society early in 2002 and was
elected to Council as Treasurer in October 2006 and re-elected
in July 2009, December 2012 and October 2016. He has since
also been appointed to the post of Webmaster having
constructed the Society’s new website in
2009.
As has been reported elsewhere he found out
about the Society whilst browsing through family papers
following his Father’s death in the mid 1990’s. It turns out
that Jon’s mother had joined the Society very shortly before
her premature death in 1973. The records show that her
membership number was A220 and that she was a member for less
than 60 days – perhaps a rather sad and unfortunate
record.
Jon has subsequently found family records
prepared by his maternal great grandfather, Thomas H. Thoms,
and information in various family bibles. Using these he has
managed to establish that he is distantly related to the
current Chief of Clan MacThomas – the family tree attached to
this page explains the details. The attached article, taken
from the 2007 edition of the Clach A’ Choilich, explains more
about his ancestors.
Jon was born in West London
in 1948 and was brought up in Oxshott, Surrey in Southern
England. He
was educated at St John’s School,
Leatherhead and subsequently graduated with a First Class
Honours BSc Degree in Production Engineering from the City
University in London. He was fortunate enough to be sponsored
through university by his first employer for whom he continued
to work in various planning, purchasing and logistics roles
for some 18 years. In 1983 he joined his second employer,
a major Japanese electronics company, where
he worked in Logistics, IT, Planning and, finally,
Environmental Affairs. Having passed the company’s
official retirement age, Jon eventually retired in February
2012.
Jon spends much of his spare time working on Clan
Society matters. He also likes to spend time looking after his
tropical fish, walking, gardening, DIY around the house, and
studying investment opportunities. He is divorced and lives in Fleet,
Hampshire in the South of
England.
