The information below may assist members to deal with
any emergencies whilst they are at the Gathering in Pitlochry
and Glenshee. Let us just hope that no-one has to refer to
this page - but better safe than sorry!
Telephone
The
telephone number to call in the case of a real Emergency
in Scotland is 999. The operator will
then ask if you require Police, Fire, Ambulance,
Coastguard or Mountain Rescue.
There are
a few points to remember:
1. The
Emergency Services may have to travel a considerable
distance to reach
you -
so
response times will be slower than you are used
to.
2. Mobile
telephone reception in parts of the Highlands is
poor or non-existent.
Please
do
therefore take extra care.
3.
Different arrangements may apply in the Hotel where you
are staying - please be sure to read the instructions on arrival.
Police
There is now
just one police force covering the whole of Scotland.
"Police Scotland" have offices (stations) in both
Pitlochry and Blairgowrie although we have not managed
to establish yet when these are open. The addresses are
as follows:
There
is just one fire and rescue service covering the whole
of Scotland. The "Scottish Fire and Rescue Service" has
six fire stations in the area where we are staying -
Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Kirkmichael, Dunkfield, Glenshee
and Blairgowrie. These are all manned by retained or
voluntary fire-fighters - this means that all the staff
have other full time jobs. The nearest full time
fire-fighters are based in Perth.
Mountain Rescue
in the area where we are staying is provided by the
Tayside Mountain Rescue Team which is based in
Blairgowrie. All the team members are volunteers who
receive no payment for their time. The organisation is

Medical
Problems
In case of a
major medical emergency telephone 999 and ask for
"Ambulance".

All ambulances
in Scotland are operated by the 'Scottish Ambulance
Service". It may take an ambulance longer than usual to
meet more remote areas so a Community First Responder
may be sent to look after a patient until an ambulance
arrives. The medical services in remote parts of
Scotland work very much as a team.

There are a number public Public Access
Defibrillators (PADs) in the area where the
Gathering is taking place. Sometimes referred to as AEDs
(Automated External Defibrillators) this vital life
savers equipment can be used by most without
training.
Healthcare
in Scotland is provided by the NHS (National Health
Service).
They operate a
24 hour telephone helpline and website called
NHS24. If you need help and it is not a
