Sir Malcolm & Lady Fiona MacGregor

 

The Guests of Honour at the Society Dinner in Pitlochry will be Sir Malcolm MacGregor of MacGregor bt. and his wife Lady Fiona MacGregor.

Sir Malcolm is the 24th chief of Clan Gregor and Chieftain of the Children of the Mist. He is Convenor of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.

Born in 1959, he spent most of his early life travelling the world with his parents. In 1980 he was commissioned into the Scots Guards and spent time in Northern Ireland. He also served four years in 48 Gurkha Brigade in Hong Kong and with 6th Gurkha Rifles. His final post was Chief of Staff of 51 Highland Brigade in Perth.

After that he became a prominent landscape photographer and spent time in the Sultanate of Oman on various projects and commissions. He has produced two photography books on the islands off the west coast of Scotland. Latterly he has worked for the humanitarian mine-clearing agency, the HALO Trust based in Dumfriesshire.

Lady Fiona MacGregor is probably better to known to readers in the UK as Fiona Armstrong. She is a Scottish freelance journalist, presenter and newsreader who has made and presented programs for the BBC, ITN, Border Television and Sky. Some may recall that she was one of the founder faces of GMTV Breakfast Television.

Lady Fiona specialises in Scottish clan history and has made more than 20 films on Scottish families. In 2006 she set up the first Border Reiver Trail in the south of Scotland. She writes for magazines and newspapers, including columns for Scottish Field magazine and the American-based Scotbanner newspaper. She has also written two fishing books and two cook books.

She married Sir Malcolm MacGregor in 2005. It is reported that they met on the banks of a river.
