Whilst studing the documentation supplied by
EventScotland, the Society Treasurer was surprised to see that
one of the categories mentioned was "Transport". Council
members may recall that our application for support of our
transport costs was declined in 2014. We understood, maybe
incorrectly that this was the same for
all Clans.

The Treasurer therefore sought clarification on this
point from his contact at EventScotland.

To clarify further
what is meant by travel to rural areas to support community
engagement - the key focus of this is around the
community engagement aspect - a successful request for funding
with regards to this would allow attendance at the event from
those who had never been in order to reach out to a larger
attendance base and grow the event (non-clan members, the
general public from the area etc…) funding requests cannot be
for core costs – so for example taking members already in
attendance would not be eligible - I appreciate that this is
rather a grey area, but if you could show that funding support
for transport would develop the event, for example would bring
in more visitors (so would allow people who would not attend
normally – including those who are not clan members) or
would grow the event then it could provide a stronger
application. So for future applications – if this can be
evidenced then it may have a higher chance of success when it
comes to the panel approving it.

As it says in the application form
the fund is a development programme and cannot be used to
provide long-term or core funding, as the fund is generated
from public funds it must be used to develop events and indeed
the areas they take place in. We also need to prove that the
funding is being used in support of community engagement and
is not being used for a ‘members-only’ (for want of a better
word) event – i.e. not just being used for members to attend
an event they would normally subscribe to at a subsidised
cost.
