The
Society has received a delightful handwritten letter from a
lady called Catherine, who lives in Versailles in
France. ***** She
explains in impeccable English that her husband is a French
Gendarme, who was recently in charge of the security of
supporters during the Rugby Union match between Scotland and
France at the Stade de France on Sunday 12th February.
***** She writes that
her husband, Guillaume, who does not speak English had
some “very nice and friendly exchanges with Scottish
supporters both before and after the match”. After the
supporters had left he found a “pin” with 'Deo Juvante
Invidiam Superabo' engraved on it. ***** Catherine and her
husband were keen that the pin should be returned to its
rightful owner. So they researched the motto on the internet
and from our website discovered the connection with Clan
MacThomas . ***** They were interested to read the
history of our Clan. In her letter Catherine comments
“Although we do not have such clans in France we fully
understand the sense of belonging it means”. ***** We have asked Catherine
to send the “pin” back to the Clan Society and have
promised that we will try to locate its owner – hence this
page. ***** If you
believe that the “pin” belongs to you will
please contact
the Society Webmaster. We will require you to provide a full
description of the pin together with some sort of evidence
that you were in France on that
day. |
