Graduating from Edinburgh University in 2009 as a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons), Tom embarked on another charitable project driving, with a friend, some 6,500 miles (16,000 kms) from Edinburgh to the capital of Mongolia in a bright yellow 1991 former Automobile Association service van in aid of Save the Children. Upon reaching Ulaan Baatar in September, Tom spent the rest of the year travelling around China.

In 2010, Tom began work in London as a strategic analyst with the Daily Mail General Trust (DMGT), a large international company providing information, analysis, and events for both business and consumers in over 40 countries worldwide. In 2011, to gain wider analytical experience, Tom spent a year with the William Hill Organisation in Gibraltar, before returning to London in 2012 as a senior commercial analyst with Wowcher, before becoming Head of Marketing.
In 2015, he moved to his current role as Head of Marketing at the venture capitalists, Forward Partners. In the same year Tom went to Uganda and bicycled over 250 miles in five days for charity.
