Clan Society members, Brian and Martina Thom toured the
Highlands this summer and paid a visit to the Culloden
Battlefield site. Whilst there they undertook some research
and discovered that at least three people from the area around
Glenshee with the surname "Thom" took part in the battle as
Jacobites and were taken prisoner.
The records
showed that they were Coln Thom from Kirriemuir who was later
discharged, Robert Thom from Forfar who was transported to the
Leeward Islands and George Thom from Farnell whose fate is not
clear. Seven other clansmen with the name Thomson also fought
at Culloden, but their clan affiliation has yet to be
determined.
If any
members have any further details on the MacThomases at
Culloden will they please send it to the Webmaster. Thank
