Sandi Thom – An Update
Members will recall that last year’s edition of
the Clach introduced new member “Sandi” Thom and the Boost to
her Pop Music career by way of Web Concerts. In this short
article we provide brief update.
After the phenomenal success of her first single
“I wish I was a punk Rocker”, Sandi’s album “Smile it Confuses
People” went on to top the UK album
charts.
Much of 2007 was spent on the road touring
throughout Europe and as far afield as Japan and Canada. Life
on tour for an aspiring pop star is not easy. When not
performing Sandi has to give interviews to the press and radio
and has little time to take in the sights in the wonderful
countries that she has visited.
During the early part of 2008 she did a number
of acoustic gigs around the UK and in France. These were held
in small intimate venues because Sandi says she likes to get
close to people with her music and there is no better way than
performing live and seeing the everyone in the audience’s
faces.
When all the demands on her time allow, she
likes more than returning home to Scotland and chilling out.
It is not all grand occasions for Sandi; in January 2008 she
sang at a Burn’s night celebration at a hotel close to close
to her mother’s home in Edzell. All the family were present
and she even managed to “rope” her father Sandy (also a
Society member) into singing on the
night.
Sandi is very proud of her Scottish roots does
everything she can to support her country and its culture.
During Tartan Week in New York she met Sir Sean Connery and
even tried to teach him a few chords on her tartan guitar. She
has also met the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond on a
number of occasions.
As she travels the world Sandi gains inspiration
for new songs. The end product are her new album “The Pink and
the Lily” and new single “Devil’s Beat” which were both
released in May. The video for the single was shot in
Budapest.
The remainder of 2008 is going to be busy for
Sandi. She will be touring the UK and Europe during the Summer
and there are events in Australia and Japan pencilled in for
later in the year. Ironically a line from the latest single
says “Let me get my feet back to solid ground” – they way
things are going it does not seem as if her feet will touch
the ground this year.
